Concert Tour Gossip
Week of June 17, 1996
DR. JIMMY, Mr. Jim, plus the punk and the godfather will all
meet at Madison Square Garden as the only North American
performances of The Who's QUADROPHENIA take place July
16th, 17th & 18th. Metropolitan Entertainment Group's John
Scher, which will produce the event, and long-time Who manager
Bill Curbishley announced the shows in a joint statement last
week. Along with performances by Peter Townshend, Roger
Daltrey, and John Entwistle, Zak Starkey will be playing drums.
The production promises extensive film and video effects,
plus a number of guest performers to be announced at a later date.
Tickets for this special event are first being offered to American
Express cardholders. Priced at $65, $40, and $30, tickets will be
available by phone for cardmembers only starting June 17th. If
tickets are still available two days later, the remainder will go on
sale to the general public, via Ticketmaster on June 19th. The only
other performance of Quadrophenia is set to take place June 29th
in London's Hyde Park as a benefit for the Prince's Trust. That
all-star performance sold 150,000 tickets in less than 48 hours.
