JUNE IN WHOSTORY



        Here's this month's happenings in Whostory.  I've added a few more 
     details to help jog the memory:

     "The Who's Tommy" closes on Broadway on the 17th after 900 performances. 
     The controversial remixed CD's of "A Quick One" and "The Who Sell Out" are 
     released.

     Top album U.S. "5150" - Van Halen; Britain "Invisible Touch" - Genesis. 
     Roger's single "Under a Raging Moon" is released in the U.S. It fails to 
     chart.
     
     15 years ago
     Top album U.S. "Paradise Theater" - Styx; Britain - "Stars on 45"
     "Don't Let Go The Coat" hits the U.S. charts on the 27th.  It reaches #84.
     
     20 years ago
     Top album U.S. "Black and Blue" - The Rolling Stones; Britain - "Abba's 
     Greatest Hits".
     The Who give a concert at Swansea Football Ground in Wales on the 12th. 
     An amateur production of "Siddhartha" is held at the Meher Baba Oceanic 
     Centre with the song "The Ferryman" written by Pete.
     
     25 years ago
     Top album U.S. "Tapestry" - Carole King; Britain "Ram" - Paul & Linda 
     McCartney.
     The Who record more studio takes of "Bargain: on the 5th, 18th and 19th and 
     record another studio version of "Naked Eye" on the 7th.
     A 3:37 edit of "Won't Get Fooled Again" is released as a single in Britain 
     on the 25th.  It reaches #9.
     
     30 years ago
     Top single U.S. "Paint It, Black" - The Rolling Stones; Britain "Strangers 
     In The Night" - Frank Sinatra.
     The Who arrive in Copenhagen for a Scandinavian tour on the 6th. 
     On the 11th, European radio stations report that Roger is dead.  
     It was caused by confusion over Pete's car accident a month 
     before, but Lambert strings the rumor along to get press 
     coverage for the band.
     "Disguises" is recorded on the 14th.
     The Who begin a British tour on the 15th at the Tiles Club, 
     London.
     The Fleur De Lys release a cover version of "Circles."

     To single U.S. "Travelin' Man" - Ricky Nelson; Britain "Surrender" - Elvis. 
     Pete and John graduate from Acton County Grammar School; Roger has already 
     been expelled and is working in a sheet metal factory.  During the summer 
     Roger forms a skiffle group called The Detours.
