The list. . .

A brief review of The Who Mailing List Digest Tuesday, 30 July 1996
Volume 03 : Number 499

HEADER, AUTHOR, AND COMMENTS:
Re: other great drummers -- Greg Biggs. A discussion of other rock
drummers. Does mention Keith Moon twice, so we'll call it borderline
on-topic. Fairly interesting.

Just a request -- Aimee Hay. A plea for other listers to write out full
song names (The Kids Are Alright) instead of abbreviations (TKAA). On-topic,
but pretty stupid.

NC Secession -- Bob (RWNomad). A continuation of the debate over the
causes of the Civil War. Off-topic, but informative.

Flamin' Brits -- Bob (RWNomad). Responds to a request by Dave Shipway to
start a flame war by insulting the British Royal Family. Off-topic, but
mildly amusing.

Brotherly love (like no otherly love) -- Mark Leaman. Mark responds to
implied threats from Bernd's brother. Off-topic. Snide, but not without
merit.

TKAA viddy, Thanks Litgo... -- Jeff Williams. Thanks Litgo for Polydor
Quad s/n, suggests TKAA tape tree, then lengthy discussion of the "state of
the list." Likes it. Briefly on-topic.

Re: The Who Mailing List Digest V3 #495 -- Chsnprey@aol.com. Attempt to
unsubscribe from the list. Does mention The Who ("disconnect thewho),
therefore deemed on-topic.

Re: flame 'N' Dave -- Chsnprey@aol.com. Another attempt to unsubscribe.
Does not mention The Who, therefore deemed off-topic.

Just Quaddin' -- Mike Schmidt. Discusses listening to Quad boots.
 On-topic, but irrelevant

The Russell Harty Show -- Yvette Harper. Appears to be a copy of another
post requesting a copy of the Russell Harty show where Keith stripped.
Technically on-topic, but as a complete reposting of a prior post is totally
a waste of space.

Re: flame 'N' Dave -- Cynthia Wettle. One-word response to the original
flame 'N' Dave. Off-topic and mildly interesting.

Re: flame 'N' Dave -- Mark Estep. Humorous response to original flame 'N'
Dave post, giving subjects over which to start a flame war. Off-topic, but
very funny.

Fang-Medalist? -- ScottyTee@aol.com. Humorous response to humorous
comment by WFang. Off-topic, but funny.

re: drummers -- ScottyTee@aol.com. Debates whether or not Ringo played
on various Beatle tracks, and makes joking insults of list-member Pete Best.
 Off-topic, and mildly amusing.

the mailing list -- Mark Estep. Asks whether complaining about list
content will improve it. Compares to Who album remixes, so slightly on-topic
but not dreadfully interesting.

re:A Quality Post -- ScottyTee@aol.com. Humorous response to humorous
comment by Larry Lawthers directed at WFang. Off-topic, but funny.
These boots... -- Mark Estep. Requests information about Who boots.
 On-topic.

Re: flame 'N' Dave -- Steve M. Yet another response to the original flame
'N' Dave. Off-topic and dull.

Re: Feeling left out..... -- Chris Hinkle. Responds to a request by Dave
Shipway to start a flame war by calling Dave a wanker. Off-topic, but mildly
amusing.

Re: drummers -- Chris Hinkle. Makes joke at the expense of list member
Pete Best. Off-topic, but mildly amusing.

Theatrical Version of TKAA on VideoDisc -- Pamela Woodward. Announces that
she has a laser-disc of TKAA but can not play it. On-topic, but useless
information.

Clambake Joe Goes To The Lake And Meets The Girl Of His Dreams In An Ice
Cream Shop Holding A Fudgecicle And A Vanilla Shake. -- Scott Curtis.
Wonders why (and gives a few theories) music isn't as good as it was in the
"old days". As The Who is the "yardstick," it is sort of on-topic, but not
dreadfully interesting.

Re: List Purpose -- Scott Curtis. Humorous response to Christopher
Goosmans humorless reminder to keep it on-topic. Off-topic, but funny.

Making digests into regular mail -- Dave Hughes. Incomprehensible message
about
"digestifying" the digests? Off-topic and dull.

Your very own list -- Bruce Kawakami. Advertisement for company that sets
up mailing lists. Off-topic, but mildly humorous.

Re: Stop sucking -- Scott Curtis. More Mark vs. Bernd. Off-topic, dull
(given subject matter, not post)

New PJ review, with Who content -- Kyle in NJ. Review of new Pearl Jam
album that has Who references. Also request for PJ bootlegs. Only vaguely
on topic, but somewhat interesting.

Re: flame 'N' Dave -- David13. Dave denies responsibility for the original
flame 'N' Dave post, and insults WFang. Off-topic, and interesting for the
fallout it will cause.

Re: Ringo or Paul? -- born2run@pipeline.com. More discussions about
which Beatles tracks Ringo may not have played on. Off-topic, but
interesting.

TOTALS:
On-topic: 6
Sorta on-topic: 5
Off-topic: 18

On-topic and worthwhile: 1 (maybe...) (16%)
Sorta on-topic and worthwhile: 4 (80%)
Off-topic and worthwhile (or amusing): 13 (72%)

Sounds like we oughta kick all that strictly on-topic crap off the list!
