To Kit or Not To Kit?

A while back, there was some discussion re. whether or not the song Somebody
Saved Me was about Kit Lambert. The piece entitled Pancho and The Baron,
from Horse's Neck, seems to evoke much of the same imagery as Somebody Saved
Me -- how Townshend realizes, too late, how much he has 'leaned' on these
'others'.

It seems to me that the voices of both Pancho and the Baron (as expressed
through the two poems that begin and end the story) may represent two
primary facets of Kit Lambert's relationship to Pete Townshend. As the Marsh
book illustrates, Lambert's role (both creatively and managerially) in The
Who's early years cannot be understated. The Pancho/Baron story seems to be
Townshend's attempt to situate their relationship in a brutally honest form,
almost an ode to Kit. Pancho seems to be Kit the Collaborater and Baron
seems to be Kit the Manager.

Curious to hear anyone's thoughts on this.
