who's generation?

Recently a lister, I can't recall whom, made a gibe about Roger Daltrey
trying to look macho, sexy, whatever when he went shirtless during one of
the DST shows and she (I presume it was a she) found it sad that this would
be done by an "old man" (I think she went so far as to call him). In this
regard, I'd like to point out something which Roger Daltrey himself once
said about this sort of reaction back in the 1970's. He said that the Who
have never presumed to speak to any generation other than their own and that
if anyone in the current generation wanted to see the Who, then fine, but
the Who only spoke for the generation which followed the band in its heyday.
In fact, as the recent MSG shows have shown the Who's appeal, and that of
Roger in particular, is multi-generational but it is salutary to reflect for
a minute on what Roger said....Gary M.
