Second Night

Can't stay on for long (composing on-line from a guest account), but wanted
to pop in and share that show #2 kicked some ass. What a great night!

Front row center, Pete side. Same basic show as opening night, but I just
thought they jelled much better tonight. A few details...

Side 1: Missed Pete's electric on "Quadrophenia." "Cut My Hair" with Pete
up front on vocals and acoustic and the band rocking out in their parts is a
real high point. "Punk..." really rocks, but I think Gary Glitter drags it
down. His visual is cool, and I like his energy, however his vocals add
nothing, and it just kills me to not have Roger and Pete singing those lines,
especially Pete's bridge - "I have to be careful not to preach..."

Side 2: "I'm One" is always phenomenal in every incarnation. "Dirty Jobs,"
one of my faves, is sung by a costumed Simon with support from Pete and
Roger. I enjoy Simon on stage (and in real life), but again, I'd much rather
Roger be singing. At least Roger still sings, "My karma tells me..."
"Helpless Dancer" with Roger and Pete trading lines is perhaps the high
point of the show for me. Never a particular favorite on the album, this
version is reaching into my very soul. "Had Enough" rocks out in a big way
(Go Zak!), but again, suffers from Glitter's vocal time.

Side 3: "5.15" What's there to say? "Sea and Sand" Always a favorite.
"Drowned" Solo acoustic Pete, just like the club shows. Awesome.
(Although I love every different arrangement they've ever done of that song.
"Bellboy" As I said before, even though he's not my cup of tea, Billy Idol
is great in his role. Also, during the "Bellboy, you've got to get..."
refrain, John, Geoffrey, Roger, Simon, and Pete have him surrounded as a
group. It's cool.

Side 4: "Dr. Jimmy" Good version. Always loved "Is It Me?" segment, but
"Dr. J" turns my stomach. For those of you men at the show, try looking
around at the pain in the women's eyes as men sing, "Who is she? I'll rape
it." "Love Reign O'er Me" Roger is an Adonis. :) I miss Pete's electric
guitar here in a big way.

Encore as somone has probably already posted is the same as night one with a
rousing "Substitute" filling in for "Naked Eye."

Oh, and before I forget, Phil Daniels is great as Jimmy. The script is
pretty much verbatim from record jacket.

All in all, a spectacular show!

Then afterwards, I had the good fortune to meet Pete and get my WHO R U
license plate signed. Then later, I was up 'till 5 again hanging out with
wonderful fan/friends from all over the world (Arizona, Texas, the Carolinas,
California, Germany, Italy, England, Colorado, Washington, and more) and
partying with the band. Life is just too damn good. Now if only I weren't
sleeping on the floor of a friend's non-air conditioned apartment...

If you know anyone still looking for tickets, my people still have some.
