I'm not assuming; I'm relating from my personal experiences there as well as
the research that I've done (and there's so much more, like the reason for
throwing beads originated from young gentlemen throwing jewelry at young
ladies they were attracted to). It's a time for "getting your sins out."
This has to do with giving things up for Lent, and Lent is a Xtian
belief...so yes it does have to do with Xtian beliefs. So there's the truth
for ya.
