I saw Joan Osborne perform a few months ago, and my first impression was that
her delivery was somewhat reminiscent of Janis Joplin - something that
definitely doesn't come across on her CD. Her set is still hit-or-miss,
though, because her repertoire of material is rather thin...
I've seen Soul Asylum a couple of times in recent years - their live set is
one of the most energetic I've ever seen. All this talk around here lately
about who are great drummers and who aren't: Sterling Campbell is a monster!
I would suspect, though, that since this would be an opening slot, they
would play things a little closer to the vest and play mostly their
radio-friendly material.
WARNING TO WFANG:
Soul Asylum grew out of the Minneapolis music scene in the mid-80's and were
proteges of Husker Du, the band fronted by one Bob Mould :)
