Quad reflections

I've been listening to the Quad remix, and would like to offer this brief
impressionistic report (because I don't have sufficient audiophile ability
to comment from such perspective). The new mix is clean, demonstrating the
kind of instrument separation lacking in the original, "compressed" Quad. As
many have reported, the drums and bass are boosted high. The guitars still
sound anemic to me; I think this is because of the way PT played them
originally, not any failing of Astley/Macpherson, i.e., those noodling,
light leads and chords instead of the storming, WN-type power riffing
((never mind LAL...). I can't hear those vocal fades some have heard, but I
still hear a Daltrey straining to hit notes clearly beyond his range. A
good, noy great Who album, which could have been the quintessence of genius
had PT rocked up the guitars. I think Drowned is the best cur of theses
remixes, sounding live and powerful. My good buddy Larry Herman, not yet
on-line but shortly to be, indicated that he returned his Quad CD to HMV
because of a technical defect. When I asked what it was, thnking it might be
a Fangish discontent with technical features of the remix, Herman said,
"shucks, no, the problem was the case had two Disc 1's in it!".....Gary M.
