   Yea, but I like Green Day, too.  I don't think there's any way you can deny
the Who's influence in bands like Green Day.  Bands like Green Day are
influenced by bands like the Clash and the Sex Pistols, who were influenced by
the Who.  And I find Green Day's music very reminiscent of the Who's early work;
Green Day strives only to create perfect three-and-a-half minute pop songs, the
way young Pete Townshend did- short little jolts of chord-based musical
adrenaline, with lyrics that strive to define, or at least to find common 
ground with, the concerns of their audience.  
   And remember, in their day, the Who's "look ugly, question your parents, and
deafen the audience" wasn't far off from your definition of Green Day's mission
(and by the way, the members of Green Day find moshing just as silly as we do).
I think there's definitely a connection in spirit between the (early) Who and
punk bands, Green Day included.
