Some further info, FYI:
Track listing:
When She Sleeps -- bitter, painfully honest, about realizing one's
girlfriend/SO/wife is drifting or has already drifted away.
Medicine -- slow but swingy. About his little daughter, "she does
everything right." Shows off high vocals.
So Sleep -- anthemic, driving, major key
Company -- sardonic look at hangovers and self-recrimination; dreamy
at times but with hard rhythms. "I did it to myself; no wonder I've
been losing sleep -- with the company I keep."
The Way It Is -- about accepting reality rather than evading it,
yet fighting back a howl of pain in the chorus.
Save Me From Myself -- straight-ahead driving rocker, mostly major.
"Nobody wats to see a fool fall and die...so save me from me."
Water -- eerie and prayerful, a meditation. Hints of Roxy Music and
more than a hint of psychedelia. Ben featured on bg vocals.
Girls on Girls -- ominous, jangly, jittery. Harsh music and vocals.
Synthesizer-drenched, evoking images of neon-lit wet streets seedy New York
nightlife.
No More Never -- love ballad.
Capture -- big power chords, electronic buzz/beeps, major, but
complicated key, chord, and rhythm changes. Guitar showcase.
Inspired by an evening at Pete's house.
Ecstacy Heaven -- Simon refers to this one as an anthem, but it's
slow, quiet, and heartfelt. Violins, high vocals.
The Girl I Fell in Love in New York -- touching acoustic narrative,
with light orchestration, ending on an unresolved but hopeful note.
