It's about a group of kids who have lived in Edinburgh and grown up together
and are in about their early 20s. It just deals with their characters and
everyday lives - hard drugs and their consequences, sex, unemployment, crime,
killing time. It's bleak, but credible and entertaining. There's not a great
deal of plot, just a chronological sequence of events with an ending. The
book may be a bit difficult to follow, because it's written in a Scottish
accent, with many slang terms. Chapters are narrated "first person", by
different main characters, which makes for interesting perspective shifts. The
central character is called Mark Renton, nicknamed "Rents" or "Rentboy".
Cheers,
