Daltrey Sings Townshend

Listening again to this CD I realise Rog rallied strongly for these shows.
He shows surprising ability to work effectively in the upper ranges, notably
on Imagine a Man and Song is Over. I thought overall his vocals here were
much stronger than on the Who`s 1989 tour. Plus, where his voice frays a bit
his experience, through effective phrasing and other devices, smooths over
the rough spots. Also, I thought the use of this particular orchestra,
backing vocalists, and the Chieftans very effective and possibly proving a
model for the Who`s upcoming Quad performances. But the best performance was
The Real Me, because of the addition of JAE. In one sense it`s sad hearing
how good the members of the Who can still sound ( eg., also on Saturday
Night`s Alright For Fighting and Dig) because of the great albums they
clearly could have made after 1982 had they not stopped functioning as a
band in that year..... Gary M.
