I'm not a Priest of the Temple of Syrinx, but....
I'm sure someone has mentioned this, but the similarity between the
Who and Rush's 2112 lays with TOMMY, specifically "Amazing Journey."
Both songs have that spiral staircase, obligatory in any dream sequence,
and a spirit guide of sorts - an "oracle" in 2112 vs. a tall, Merlin-
like figure in Amazing Journey. AJ goes into more description about
the spirit guide.
Actually, now that I think of it, Pete's Spiral Staircase pre-dates
TOMMY, being used in an obscure song connected with "Rael."
As for 2112, I forget the name of the author, but 2112's storyline is
taken from a Sci Fi book, the name of which also escapes me. Anyway,
perhaps the author of that book was a Who fan, incorporating the spiral
staircase and TOMMY dream sequence in his book, and Rush carried it
over into 2112.
Btw, Rush's rhythm section is vastly underrated in my opinion... they
were an excellent instrumental band at one point, creating some very
inventive instrumental motifs. Sadly, they strayed away from making
extended songs. Nevertheless, Neil Peart is a *great* drummer, and
Geddy Lee - shrill, atonal voice not withstanding - is an excellent
bass player.
Incidentally, the Temple of Syrinx is located up near Houghton/Hancock
airport on the U.P. of Michigan.... just up the road from Big Betty's
Truck Stop.
Well, enough of that stuff... let's talk about the Tibetan mono
version of Iron Man!

	Every good wish--Tom Farrell
