Quadrophenia

I always thought that Jimmy didn't really kill himself as such.
What he did was kill his old self. I saw the suicide as just that: a
suicide. However, this suicide was the death of the old Jimmy, the one
dominated by what was mod, what was cool, and what would make him admired
and respected by others. This Jimmy was repersented by the scooter, which
was, indeed, killed. The use of "Had Enough" I saw as saying that Jimmy had
had enough of the old ways, and it was time for something new. As far as
the flashback goes, I hadn't thought of this before. Someone with the tape
(I don't even have a TV!) should look at the beginning scene in Brighton and
look to see what Jimmy's wearing and compare it with the last scene. If
memory serves, he was wearing the black double breasted jacket in Brighton,
and it was new (remember when he takes it out of the box at home?) at the
time. If Jimmy is, indeed, wearing that jacket in the opening ocean
sequence, it would tend to indicate that the movies was a flashback and
Jimmy lived!

        LONG LIVE THE WHO!
