Re: Paul Weller's last



I agree with his comments.  Wild Wood was pretty listenable. I found
Style Council very Muzak-like.  Hell their first single was on the local
old folks AM station, KEX, when it came out. I found late model Jam to be
a poor imitation of Motown, but as I have said many times the 1st four
albums of the Jam are Must Buys. Their version of So Sad About Us is great.
There were a few singles after these which were really good:
1) That's Entertainment, 2) Funeral Pyre (great drumming on this) 
3) Tales of the Riverbank (b-side really) and 4) Dreaming on Monday 
(one of Weller's best melodies) These four didn't have the Who-like intensity 
of earlier songs but made up for it in
excellent melodic content, perhaps his best, and that counts most when all
else fails in my book....

Saw 'em live in '80 at the S&M Civic in Santa Monica.  They were great.
