Couldn't Page be playing the rhythm part that Townshend told him to play?
Obviously Pete wrote the song, so he must've taught it to Page prior to
the sessions, right? And if he taught Page how to play it, then chances
are that Page would playing it in a Townshend-esque style. 

As far as whole actually did that solo, I'll have to ask Page at the
Page*Plant show next weekend. (just kidding, I doubt I'll be meeting Jimmy
Page. And if I did, would that be the first question on my list? And if
so, would Page remember?)
