No Respect for The Who?

In TheWho Digest Vol 2 Num 54, Pete, aka QuietOne <drjimmy@cnj.digex.net>
wrote about how he noticed there was such a lack of respect for the Who,
and he compared the response to the new Bruce Springsteen GH set to the LaL
re-release.

I agree with Pete, to a certain extent. My local record store had a few
Bruce posters up and had the Springsteen GH CD in stock on first day of
release 2/28, and had no LaL in stock and no promo materials. Also, even
though I think radio response to the new Bruce Springsteen material is far
short of what it could be, I also agree with Pete that radio has for the
most part ignored the LaL re-release.

As Pete points out in a later post, the lack of promo materials and
advertising hype (though I would hesitate to call the interest suurounding
Bruce Springsteen's GH hype) is probably due to lack of $$$ from MCA.

But, here's the interesting part ... The Fans (us) know what's going on and
the record stores are going to ave to "catch up." My local record store
manager said on 2/28 that he couldn't believe the demand for LaL. He hadn't
ordered any because he thought there would be no interest in ti. He
further said that if he'd had a case of them he could've sold them all the
first day., He's now ordering it!

In a traditional marketing scenario ... the fans will "pull" this product
through to the market.
