I don't know if this is the same recording I heard, but in one of them 
he says distinctly:

"what do you think that was, Mantovani?"

Pete also asked what is a "Sod." Well it's not something that goes in 
your lawn. It's short for Sodomite. Better look this one up Pete. It 
also rhymes. I'm sure The Who intended no literal offence to anyone in 
particular. However, this may still may be an offence in some States.
