Pete went through a lot of guitars. In Woodstock he used a
Gibson SG. I think he was using them a lot in 69-70.

For most of the electric guitar work on Who's Next
he used a Gretch that he either bought or got as a present from
Joe Walsh.
In the mid 70's Pete used a lot of Gibson Les Pauls with various
modifications. Each of those guitars had a big number on them.

I believe that during the '79 tour Pete was using the Les Pauls and
Schecters(sp?), which are sort of copies of Fender Strats. For the
'82 tour Pete was pretty much using the Schecters exclusively, and
he didn't like the Les Pauls anymore. He was complaining about their
inconsistencies.. I think Les Pauls were having problems then in general
quality-wise.

For the '89 tour Pete played mostly acoustics (Takamine? not sure)..
And the Eric Clapton model Fender Strats with the whammy bar.
If you have the box set, you can hear that guitar on "I'm a man"
>From Radio City (I was there).

If you recall Pete had a little accident with a whammy bar
going through his hand. He also used Rickenbacker 12 strings
again on some songs such as Can't Explain.

For the PsychoD tour, Pete used Fender Telecasters, Rickenbackers,
and acoustics.
