When the Elton album came out, I remember Pete saying that
they wanted to use Simon Phillips, and they may have actually
done a demo with him, but that they didnt like the sound..

So  ( Possibly this is the answer ) someone came to Pete with 
a  mix from a drum machine, and they used that..
Maybe Jon Astley did the drum machine thing..I am not sure..

I wonder why they didnt just use Simon ? How awful could it 
have sounded ? 

And why dont they ever play that song on the radio anymore! : (

I remember when that first came out, it was such a cool sound,
                   
 ( Isnt there a piano "short sample" that sounds like the Old
   Who in a way, like in the beginning, there s a piano right
   after Roger sings "Get a little action in" for the first 
   time ? It sounds like the piano style from Lets  See Action )
