Subject: zen and the art of vr6 maintenance

about to replace the strut bearings on my jetta. i know lots of you possess
infinite wisdom when it comest to vr6 suspension, and was wondering: a. does
the strut bearing plate need to be replaced too? b. does the coil spring
need to be compressed to remove the strut bearing? c. do i need a special
tool from vw to loosen the flange nut, or is it a traditional allen
wrench/hex wrench combo?

i also have a problem with my driver's side lock. when i put the key in, it
spins 360, and does not catch. any idea what the problem is there?

ok then, looking forward to your numerous and helpful replies.
