RE: tow hook

I bought my 2000 GLX in mid December.  A couple of weeks later, I was
spending new years eve with my girlfriend at a relative's house.  When it
was time for me to leave, I didn't notice that the driveway curved to the
right as I was backing out (it was dark and the lighting was pretty
poor...yeah, that's it :).  As a result, I dropped my GLX into a ditch.  The
car was perfectly fine, except for some dirt and grass caught on the front
end.  Unfortunately, it was positioned in such a way that it was not
movable.  The front-right and rear-left tires were suspended in mid-air.

I had to get it pulled out by a tow truck.  The tow hook was rock solid and
it performed just fine.  Actually, the tow operator was pretty impressed and
said that he wished all other cars had that accessory.

The car made it without a scratch and I had to pay a hefty (Holiday rate)
tow bill.  Live and learn, huh?

Has anyone actually ever used the tow hook on our cars? Is it usable, or
just for looks? It's kind of slow today and I bet Chris wants some mail
anyway.
