Hi Darren,
That's me and my $0.02 again. I went through it couple
of months ago. I understand dealer sells these
bearings as a kit and they're pretty expensive. Still
I would suggest to change both of them at the same
time, beacuse as you put more miles on your car, the
other bearing will go out eventually and you have to
go through all of this again. I changed them myself
and I have to say that without proper tools it is
major pain in the ass to get old ones out and even
more pain to put new ones in without breaking them
(think price). This is still difficult to do even with
a bearing puller, which I used, because you have
nothing to rest it on. It is a great idea to change
the brakes while you at it, it would save you some
time. If you just started to hear this bearing I think
you have propably arround 2-3 k before gets really
bad, but if you already have some vibration and loud
humming, get to it as soon as you can. I think it is
propably a left bearing because when you turn to the
right car's body rolls to the left and puts more
weight on left wheel. As the situation worsens you
will notice: louder humming noise, more vibration and
humming will increase significantly when you turn
right at speed.
These are just my observations comming from my own
experience, I'm sorry it's such a bad news but I hope
it helps you avoid some pain I had to go through (my
ass still hurts when I think of it).

Can somebody tell me if the stock deck for a '95 Jetta GLX has the amp
pre-outs? I'm going to install an amp in there this weekend and I was
wondering if it did or not. Thanks. I do not have the Bose system.

I would be surprised if it did. My '97 GTI headunit didn't have another =

My 95 GLX has the same symptoms you describe. When I went to the stealer, I
was told my bearings were bad in the rear and I need a left outer tie rod. I
get the humming in a right turn, but I can't feel any vibration. Bastards
charged me $325 in labor to have my bearings repacked. The bearings were in
bad shape and I didn't want to risk driving the car for another week. When I
asked for a quote for the tie rod (including labor) they said $385!!!!!!!!!!
For a tie rod! Plus $90 for a 4-wheel alignment.

Left outer tie rod ????
Where is it?
Why 4 wheel alighment??
$325 for bearing repack?????
$390 for tie rod ???????????
@#$%&*#$*#($@@@$#$#(*%$@%#(*(#$*(@(@)#@$(*#@*&$#^%@@@%#%
I think you can do something about it, as long as you
have the bill for it with itemized labor hours and
parts.

GLXers,

OK, I have heard all kinds of problems with power windows, but today have
to join the ranks. The rear right window will not budge, but when i press
the dash or rear door switch, I hear the motor clicking in the door, but it
does not move. It is in the up position (thank god), but I am wondering if
this rings a bell with other dead window sufferers. Any input is great...

i had the exact problem, and so did two of my friends.
the problem was the window regulator.
it costs about $175.00 from the dealer. if you know someone who works @ a
dealer you can probably get it for $75.00.

Just found out that my left rear window does
not work on my 98GLX. Don't you guys all think
that there is an issue here? I've got about
20 emails saved from various people with the
same problem! Personally, I feel there is a
widespread manufacture defect in the window
componetry. Perhaps, we should all write VW of
America and bombard them with all of these
testimonials. They really should have a recall
and fix this issue free of charge. Agree?

Just my 2cents,
Tony
