Not always.  When it is acting up, open the hood and look where the plug wires plug
into the coil pack.  If you see arcing, thats it.  If you dont see arcing, I would
still try spraying wire dryer on the area.  If the engine immediately starts running
smooth again, its the same problem.

I dont know if they fixed the problem or not.  You are VERY lucky your dealer
replaced it after 24,000.  I took mine in at 25,000 when it started.  They
misdiagnosed the problem and said it was the wires.  And they wouldnt even cover
those!!!  Bastards.  Now that I'm stuck with it, I've been thinking about somehow
sealing the cracks somehow....

The first thing is always a chip.  Most VR6 owners will recommend Garrett as the
best.  (As will I)
Cheap and nicely effective.
