whine/squeak and belt question (pls read)

This is the third posting of this message.
I hope that the lack of response isn't some retaliation for my agressive 
defenses of people's opinions...


Sorry to prove my ignorance, but I want to know when I should consider
replacing the serpentine belt. Is it a home mechanic job, or should I get
the dealer to do it? How much should I anticipate spending?

I'm really only asking because I've been getting a consistent mouse squeak
for the past several months from under the hood. I'm not talking the shrill
banshee howl like some old caddy or anything, rather when I get out of the
car while it's idling, it sounds like there are bunches of little rodents
squeaking around in there, not a nice smooth VR6.

Please let me know...
