AMS Supercharger

OK Guys.....Big Question.

I have a chance to buy from a buddy of mine a AMS Supercharger with only 5k 
miles on it.  Its froma  buddy so i know how the car was driven and true 
miles and all.  He is selling it because he bought a 1.8t and wants to do 
that up with about 300HP.  My question is is it worth it to buy?  Everyone 
has told me to do the Z-Engineering(Nik Saran) unit if i do any becuase of 
install time.  However I was quoted by the garage who did his install $200 
flat rate for install.  I want to get this kit but I want to make sure there 
aren't AMS kits out there blowing up cars right now.  So all good and bad i 
would like to hear.
