Front brake advice

Hi All,

Tried to get the Jetta inspected this weekend. I need front pads among
other things to pass. Dealer wants $140-$175 for their pads including
install. Thats nuts. A local shop will replace with regular pads for
$79.99.

Being an enthusiast I'm gonna go with the Mintex Red Box pads. What I'm
considering is whether to go cross-drilled or slotted rotors or stay
stock. Car is a daily driver, sees no track time.  Is it worth it to
change the rotors besides esthetics. If so, which brands should I look at.
Anyone been there done that, Prices, advice?
