I had to do the same thing to mine. You should replace both of the at the
same time. E-mail Jose Gomez at kwerky@email.msn.com,

Yesterday I spent the whole afternoon washing, waxing, detailing, and
cleaning my '96 Jetta.  You can imagine my delight when I drove away and
noticed that the upper right - hand instrument cluster light has gone out.
 
Is it possible to change the bulbs in the instrument cluster when one goes?
 
And if so, how is it done?
