RE: Notchy shifter

His GTI was modded, I never said it was stock. If the speedo says 151 mph,
that's what it says. I know that there is that whole thing about it's not
exactly 151 mph, but who gives a f***! It's frikin cool that the toaster can
even get up to that speed!! I wouldn't want to be in the car when going that
fast, especially if I wasn't driving.

I have a hard time believing a GTI can pull 151 without any mods, its not
aero enough for the HP it puts out. My 95 GLX has a fuel cut limiter at
just over 220 Km / 135 mph.... while it still has some go in it but I agree
with Khan, at these speeds it requires quite a bit of HP to get an
additional 5 mph. My last sports car was 235 HP and while it had much less
drag and it still topped out at 245 km / 150 mph.

Not to rain on your friends parade but most cars are slightly optimistic
with their speedometers, the higher the speed, the higher the discrepancy.
Look at Motor Trends High Speed shootouts which come out every year. They
found even the Diablo was reading 12 mph faster than tracked by calibrated
radar. Not that you care when its still going 192 mph.
