Re: I think something got Borked..
Have your A/C checked for a loss of Freon. It can still blow cold when it
is low on Freon as long as it has not lost too much Freon. However, running
your A/C while it is low on Freon will quickly ruin your compressor.
As for what caused the problem, I'm at a loss on that one. Normally, such
an occurrence results in a loss of all Freon in the system. I'm not sure
why this didn't happen in your case. I would hypothesize that an O-ring
became weak & released some Freon. The escaping Freon cooled the fitting so
that it constricted around the O-ring. This in combination with the fact
that the pressure in the system dropped significantly allowed the weak
O-ring to reseal. This is admittedly far-fetched but possible. Also, if
this is the case, the system is still leaking Freon but in a slower, less
dramatic fashion.
If I am wrong (which is very possible being that my knowledge of A/C systems
is limited), you will waste a little money having you A/C checked. However,
if I am right & you do not get it checked, you will soon be buying a new
compressor.
