Air Filter pre-screen

So. I just removed my air-filter pre-screen today. It was just TOTALLY
filled with crap.

Rather than describe the amount of crap, i took pictures. you can find
them at:

http://www.lunaticfringe.org/~sundie/pics/car%20pics/clogged%20air%20pre-screen/

Check em out. I took the clogged pics, then took some after cleaning.
Go ahead, check them out.

I've had the car since October 1st 98, and never checked it. Needless
to say, it's just simply removed. And woo! Smooth idling! Smoother
acceleration past 4k! No choking when approaching redline! Woo hoo!

The only reason i can see VW engineers putting this thing in for is to
catch pieces of metal from hitting your air filter. Or, preserving your
air filter (sorta like the tv blowing up to protect the $1.50 fuse in
the panel). Or maybe catching baby birds. Who knows?

ANyway. IT's removed. I reccomend you at leats check yours, if not
remove it.

When you lift out your air filter, it's at the front of the box (really
visible). Two screws, and it's gone.

Anyway. Just my 2cents...

Sundie...
