Hope you don't mind the person-to-person reply, but this is just
opinion, and not really listworthy.
--I have Pirelli p700's, and I hate them.  The treadwear is crap.  They
don't seem to do too well in anything but warm, dry conditions.  If the
weather is even vaguely slushy, they're useless.  But they are
relatively cheap.

I just ordered a set of Dunlop Sport SP 4000's, they're a decent
all-season tire.  And the tirerack (www.tirerack.com) has them on sale. 
If you want, I can let you know what I think of them sometime next week,
after I get them on.
