You're both kinda right. The original song was played by the Who 
(Won't Get Fooled Again).

Then, Van Halen did a remake of the Who song and released it on CD 
and played it in concert.

The version on the commercial however, WAS the Who, without a doubt, 
because on the VH version, EVH used the guitar to play the "organ" 
part. (The Who used an organ, and EVH chose to use a guitar to play 
the organ part in their remake).
