24 Hours of Daytona (long)

Thought I'd re-send this since most people are back from the holidays. I
also found out that there will be *no* GT1 class at Daytona this year
(no Panoz, no Ferrari). It will be replaced by GTT (?) which is some odd
Trans-Am/tube frame/something or other class. I also don't see a Daytona
stop listed for the Speedvision Cup. It appears that the 12 Hours of
Sebring in March may offer more variety of cars and races...I'll be
there, too! http://www.strato.net/~sirrace/

Anyone going to the 24hrs of Daytona next month? I got two extra days
off and I'll be there for all 4 days of racing/qualifying. I'll most
likely be camping on the infield that whole time.

The festivities are 28 to 31 January, 1999. 4-day advance tix are $70
(infield, grandstand, paddock, and garage admission- Motorola(?) Cup,
qualifying, 24 Hour Race, and whatever other races will be run over the
4 days), 2-day advance tix (30 and 31 Jan.- 24 Hour Race only) are $30
(infield and grandstand only, IIRC paddock/garage is another $20?
day-of). If you just show up on Saturday with no ticket it will probably
cost you $70 to get everything included in the 4-day ticket. Mike Wanner
of Autohaus Harrisburg was running a Black GTI VR6 in the Motorola (?)
Cup last year! http://www.daytonausa.com/dis/index.shtml for info and
ticket order form.

There is nothing like watching the brake discs glow bright orange on
these cars as they barrel into the horseshoe, then spit fire out the
tailpipes as they exit...all at 1 or 2 am :) You also have to be
present to understand how much of a beast the Panoz cars are. They
literally vibrate the ground, and can be felt all the way to the top of
the Winston Tower!

If anyone is going, let me know and we'll set up a meeting
time/place...maybe we'll be more sucessful than Jason Whipple and I were
last year :/ You could also just look for the F-Red VR6 Golf with black
badges, Bucs license plate, and 15" Borbet Type S.
