This is what is causing your windows to fog over. I don't know the reason
why, but I'd *guess* that it's because the moisture in the car (possibly
because of your breath and body warmth) is higher than outside. With the
temperature difference, and when you have the setting on recirculate, it
causes the windows to fog up. When you get the outside air circulating, the
humidity is equalized, and your windows don't fog up so badly, but it takes
a little bit longer to reach the desired temperature.

I keep the setting on "recirculate" as soon as I start up the car, to get
the temperature to the comfort level faster. By the time the window starts
to fog up, I kick it over to "outside air" which clears up the fogging, but
keeps the car warm anyway.

Finally, when I get behind a stinky exhaust car, I turn down the blower,
and put it back on "recirculate" long enough to get around the car. When
you turn down the blower, it doesn't fog up so quickly.
