I know what you mean. I don't ever want to look like I'm racing, I want to
smoke people without it looking like I tried. :)

This is what I've found:

1. Replace the Goodyear Eagle GA's. They suck, and if you drop the clutch
even moderately fast, they will spin and make you look like you're trying
to race whether you intended to or not. Getting a stickier tire can make
all the performance difference in first gear. I know when I try to 'step on
it' in first gear, my tires slip like a mother...

2. You don't have to rev to 3000 rpm before you drop the clutch. Just give
it a little more gas while you're letting out the clutch, getting the motor
up to about 2000rpm. That will give you a solid lift off.

3. Get the K&N Drop In Replacement Air Filter. It's simple to install, and
provides better air flow into the engine == more hp.

4. If you feel comfortable getting rid of your rev limiter, look into
getting a Garrett chip, which while requiring you to put in higher octane
gasoline, will produce more HP and increase torque along a significant
portion of the RPM band.

Finally, I don't know how high you take the RPM's, but you can take it up
to 4000 RPM's without making it look like you were trying all that hard.
And if someone begins to challenge you, take it up to 5000RPM. Japanese
cars idle at about 4800RPM anyway. ;)
