As far as clutch pedal goes, there is a spring that returns it to its correct position and this spring has a tendency to fall out of its place. There was a note issued to the dealers by VW about this problem, so I would take it to the dealer and let them fix it. I hope it helps.

Mine wouldn't work sometimes.  My clutch would not return to
the correct postion either.  So raise the clutch with your
left foot and try the cruise control.  This worked for me.
