Re: NEW STEREO.....CAN I GET A RESPONSE?

I also have a 97 GLX with the 10 speaker Bose setup, although
I don't have a changer, the wiring is all set-up in my trunk. There
have been a few people on the list that have changed the head unit
and have gotten better sound reproduction. The factory set-up is
a tricky set-up. The Bose System's speakers run at a real low ohm
rating - 1 ohm, which most companies do not go that low. The other
part is that you already have a changer, so if you change the head
unit, you have to make sure that it will adapt to your changer. I myself
have thought about doing what you want to do, but after the hassles
that I saw, I decided to learn to enjoy my stock set-up.
It is possible to change the head unit that would be compatible with
the right adapter, but you will also have to do alot of shopping because
alot of shops will tell you to replace the entire unit, including the amp
speakers etc. From other responses on the list, it seems that Crutchfield
is a real good source to call up, and get the right stuff, and information.
A local person can do the same if they aren't acting like cheesy carsales
people. The best thing to do is probably go the extra mile and spend more
money than you originally thought of by buying a new head unit, amp and
speakers, tailored to your tastes, but if that is not possible than call
crutchfield, and get some information from them. Sorry for being
long winded............
