Stereo questions

I have a question regarding the installation of a CD changer in a 1999
GLX with a Bose system. I didn't buy the changer from the dealer when I
saw that the connections were there, ready to use in the trunk, plus he
wanted $800! I shopped an installer who wanted over $400, but I found
the changer and adapter harness on Crutchfeild's web site for less than
$300, so I went with that. My question is, is there a particular place
in the trunk to mount the CD changer? Logic says close to were the wires
are, but that would mean screwing it into the floor pan with self
tapping screws and then what, either cutting the carpet in the trunk or
laying the carpet back over the thing? (can't be good for it). I'd like
to know if there is a particular place that VW specifies or is it a
free-for-all.

Also, should I build some kind of enclosure? has anyone had their
changer damaged by stuff sliding around in the trunk? What about those
two threaded holes under the rear deck? If I mount it up there between
the two rear speakers is it a pain to change out CDs?
Any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks,
Chris
