My clutch pedal started clicking when engaging or releasing
the the clutch. I took it to the dealer to be repaired and at the same time my
10,000 mile service. ie: oil change and rotate the tires.
When I picked up my car, I asked about the tire rotation. The
service writer told me they measured the tread depth, front and rear and they
were equal. "The tires did not need rotating." I always thought tire
rotation was done at 5000 mile intervals. (I think they are full of
shit)
When I depressed the clutch pedal, it felt like a wet sponge!
I immediately returned to tell this to the service writer and was told this was
normal. I said "come with me to any new Jetta on your lot and I will show
you it is not normal. She said "you need to talk to the VW tech. I'm sorry
but he want home. You can leave the car over the weekend or return Monday. I
took the car home. While driving home, the clutch pedal made a hell of a noise
and the clutch felt worse. Upon removing the plastic wire covers and looking for
the clutch overcenter spring, it fell out onto the floor mat! I read the install
procedure in the Bentley manual, but it didn't help much.
Does anyone know of an easier way to reinstall the clutch
overcenter spring?
I will rotate my own tires, change my own oil and install the
clutch overcenter spring.
The moral of this story is "If you want it done right the
first time, do it yourself."
