You won't save much money on tires alone (unless you find the usual
discounts with last years model, discontinued models etc.). I can tell
you that retail and wholesale price differences for tires are minimal,
at least on the mail order scene. Companies like Tire Rack and Discount
Tire make their money on rims with a big markup. A group purchase of
rims would probably yield some worthwhile savings (or complete
wheel/tire packages).
