ECM versions (was RE: Stalling)

This thread has got me wondering: Does anyone know what changes/updates were
made between each ECM version? The part number of my early 97 is 259K, and I
have had absolutely no problems whatsoever. If the K version worked, what
prompted VW to create the AA?
