Re: catalytic converters

It was on the front page of The New York Times. The basic gist of the story
was how cats produce more nitrous oxide. Original concerns were over smog,
not global warming. The Clean Air Act, written in 1970, was for controlling
smog. The EPA says that N2O accounts for 7.2 percent of gases that cause
global warming. The article also inferred that since so few cars are not
equipped with cats that production of N2O has increased almost 50% from
1990 to 1996. You can get the un-para-phrased version at:
http://www.nytimes.com/yr/mo/day/news/national/cars-pollute.html
It may ask you to register with them, but it's not a bad paper to register
with.
