Slight squeak while clutch is engaged.

I have a '97 Jetta GLX with about 22000 miles on it, and I have recently =
begun to have a small problem.  Basically, any time the clutch is =
engaged (i.e. cruising in gear or sitting still with the transmission in =
neutral and my foot off of the clutch), I get a slight but constant =
squeaking sound that seems to be coming from the transmission.  If I =
push the clutch pedal even just slightly, the squeak goes away.  The =
squeaking occurs in any gear (as well as neutral) and at any speed.

Has anyone had a similar problem, or does anyone have some idea as to =
what it might be?

By the way, it has not affected the performance of the car at all =
(including ease of shifting or smoothness of the clutch engagement).  =
It's just getting to be quite an annoyance.
