Police Harassed at VW Festival

POTSDAM, Germany (AP) - Police answering a trouble call at a Volkswagen
festival perhaps should have known
better than to drive up in a car made by Opel, the German subsidiary of
General Motors.

The officers called to a scuffle early Sunday at the ``International VW
Blowout 1998'' near Luckau, 40 miles south of
Berlin, dodged insults and bottles thrown by drunken revelers.

No one was injured in the melee and no arrests were made, a police spokesman
said.

About 38,000 people attended the weekend VW celebration. Four people were
injured during an illegal car race
held after the official program, police said. One of the four was
hospitalized.
