Door Handle Removal

     Does someone know how to remove the door handle on a '95 Golf?  My 
     girlfriend's lock cylinder came out with her key this morning.  The 
     hook on the back of the lock cylinder is broken off clean.  This may 
     start to be a problem with everyone's cars.  It look like this is a 
     very weak link in the mechanism.  
     
     I want to swap the handle from the passenger side to the driver's side 
     and buy a non-keyed handle for the passenger side.  I can't get the 
     handle to come free of the door after I remove the screw and pull it 
     towards the front of the car.  Does anyone have any advice or 
     suggestions other than pulling the door panel and looking at it from 
     the backside.  Pulling the panel looks like a whole other pain in the 
     a@#?
     
     Also, does anyone have any sources for a door handle other than the 
     dealer?  I checked with GPR and they don't have them.
