Re: speaker quesrtion...

The nice thing about component set speakers is that they act like one speaker.
In other words your head unit will only be connected to basically four
speakers. Just imagine a two way speaker divided into two separate speakers.
Ok that sounds a bit convoluted. Here...

The right rear (RR) channel (one of four, LF, RF, LR, RR ) of your head unit
(Alpine or Factory) will go back to the right passenger door speaker set. But,
before getting to the speaker, the channel will go threw a cross-over. This
magic little device will take the (lets say) 15 watts from that channel and
sort of divide it and send it to the two speakers in the set. BUT, it wont
actually divide the 15 watts sending a smaller amount to each speaker. The
cross-over will take (for example) all the sounds in the frequency range 0-
3KHz and send them to the 6 inch speaker in your door at the full 15 watts, AND
at the same time it will take all the sounds in the frequency range 3KHz -
20KHz and send them to the little tweeter in your door at the full 15 watts.
Since the speakers are covering completely different sounds, the 15 watts can
be divided at a point down the frequency range of the component set.

I hope some of that made sense. And if I'm wrong you guys can flame me.

As for your Alpine clearing up the distortion in the speakers, this is often
caused by a mis-match in the power from the head unit and the power that the
speakers want. You Alpine may give you a bit more volume with a bit more
clarity (due to it higher power out put compared to the factory unit), but
you'll most likely still get distortion at higher volume.
