is a good idea...and can it be done?<

It can be done. However, two possible objections are:

1) The increase in sound fidelity may not be worthwhile unless you are
prepared to spend a lot of money *and* upgrade the speakers with - for
instance - MBQuart QM218.21 Speakers. You can get an identical (Clarion) =

trunk-mounted CD player for half the price VW charges. =

2) The Jetta/Golf dashboard is so unusual that most aftermarket
CD/Receivers look cheap and out of place. The problem is the very square
corners of the Jetta/Golf dashboard cutout and the very flat plane of the=

Jetta/Golf dashboard. Most aftermarket receivers have rounded corners and=

they stick out conspicuously from the plane of the dashboard. Rough plast=
ic
and metal is observable behind the corners.

If you install a typical garish aftermarket receiver/in-dashCD in your
Jetta, you run the risk of casual observers assuming you smoke cigarettes=

and live in a trailer park.
