Ok here is the scoop on the 2 different coolants and the VR6
corrosion problems.
Blue G-48 - ZVW-237-105 older fluid used in most of the VW's till
96-97. Recommended to change every 2-3 years. If you own a VR6 model
recommend to change to the new G-12 coolant.
Red G-12 G-012-A8D-A1 The NEW stuff. Suppose to be the solution to
the corrosion problems. Use on the late models and Audi's. Lifetime
Coolant (ok change every 4 years or so) This stuff is incompatible
with any other coolant including G-48. Can be used in all other
models but you must flush out the old stuff really good. Recommend to
drain old stuff fill with water and run a few days then repeat it and
after the 2nd time drain system completely. Then refill with G-12.
All VR6 owners are recommended to change to the G-12 as the corrosion
problems are causing expensive repairs as the VR6 fleet gets older.
